Frequently asked questions.

What are your fees?

Standard 50-minute sessions are $300 per session. I have limited availability for recurring weekly clients, and I’m currently running a waitlist; contact me if you would like to be added. I do have immediate openings for intensives, however. I offer customized intensive packages based on your needs and goals, starting at $1550 for a half-day individual intensive. You can find more information on my Intensives Page [hyperlink]. Please schedule a free consultation to discuss an intensive tailored to your unique situation.

Do you accept insurance?

I am not an in-network provider with any insurance companies at this time. I have not made this decision lightly. My goal is to provide high-quality client-centered care. While insurance can make therapy more affordable, it comes with drawbacks, such as limits on the length and quantity of sessions and the type of therapy I’m able to provide. Insurance companies require a diagnosis that becomes part of your permanent medical record, which can have negative long-term ramifications. Billing insurance for therapy also compromises your confidentiality, as they can request session notes at any time to verify that the services provided meet their requirements.

Depending on your individual insurance plan, you may be able to receive some reimbursement for the cost of sessions by submitting a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement. Not all plans have this benefit; please contact your insurance directly with questions. I am happy to provide documentation for sessions if you would like to pursue out-of-network reimbursement. Please note that the insurance company will still require a diagnosis to prove medical necessity for treatment. If you’re uncomfortable with adding a mental health diagnosis to your permanent medical record, consider paying out-of-pocket.

What is your cancellation policy?

I have a standard 24-hour cancellation policy for weekly 50-minute sessions. If you cancel in less than 24 hours, you will be charged the full fee for the session. When you schedule an intensive, you will be required to pay a non-refundable deposit of 50% of the full cost of the intensive to secure your spot. Due to the extensive time I’ve reserved for you, I require a week’s notice to cancel or reschedule an intensive. Barring an emergency situation, if you cancel less than a week before the session, you will still owe the full amount for the intensive. If you need to reschedule within less than a week, I may charge a rescheduling fee.

How long will I be in therapy?

That depends! No two clients are the same, and I can’t predict how long it will take you to achieve your goals. Clients who choose traditional weekly therapy may be in therapy anywhere from three months to more than a year, although some may decrease session frequency as they meet their goals and transition to the maintenance or integration phase of therapy. If you want to make rapid progress in a short amount of time, I recommend an intensive [hyperlink]. Intensives offer powerful results, sometimes in as little as one day.

How will I know if we’re a good fit?

It can feel awkward, or even intimidating, to meet a new person and jump right into discussing vulnerable personal details of your life. If you’re feeling a little uncertain about this, you’re not alone. My goal is to create a safe, non-judgmental, relaxed environment between us. Most of my clients find that they begin to feel comfortable and connected with me by the first 2-3 sessions for traditional weekly therapy, or by the end of the intake portion of an intensive.

Sometimes, personalities just don’t work out. This isn’t anyone’s fault. In therapy, you should feel heard, understood, and supported, as well as occasionally challenged, but you should always feel safe. If at any point you feel like we’re not a good fit, please don’t hesitate to let me know. I won’t take it personally. I don’t expect to be the perfect therapist for everyone! I’ll do everything I can to provide referrals so you can find someone who is a better fit.

Fit between therapist and client is a vital component of successful therapy. This is why I take consultations so seriously. Often, if we’re not a good fit, we can identify that during our initial 20-minute consultation, before you’ve made any commitment or spent any money. Do you offer in-person or online options for sessions?

I offer both in-person and online options for all types of sessions except equine therapy. Due to the nature of equine therapy, it must take place in-person, so that you can physically interact with the horses. For in-person sessions, my office is located in ___, in the North Suburban Chicago area.

You may be unsure if you would prefer in-person or online therapy. Some people find that being physically present with me enhances their experience, and helps them feel more connected or comfortable. Others appreciate the flexibility of online sessions, since they can join from anywhere that’s convenient, or even choose a spot that’s familiar and special to them. I’ve found both in-person and online therapy to be highly effective, as long as the client is satisfied with the format. I’m happy to discuss both options in more detail during our initial consultation.

I want to move forward. What’s the next step?

The next step is to contact me to schedule a free consultation. We’ll meet by phone or Zoom for about 20-30 minutes, to discuss your goals for therapy, to discover if we’re a good fit to work together, and to create a treatment plan or intensive package that fits your needs. This is a no-pressure call; by the end, you will be able to decide if you want to book a session or pursue other options.
